My current club - Sevilla FC

Sevilla FCLuis Fabiano at Sevilla
Luis Fabiano was transferred to La Liga side Sevilla in the summer of 2005. On 10 May 2006, Fabiano scored a header during Sevilla's 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the UEFA Cup final. The success continued in the 2007-08 season, as Fabiano finished runner-up in the Pichichi Trophy with 24 goals, and only 2 of them scored from the penalty spot, second only to Dani Güiza with a total of 27 goals. This led to Fabiano being recalled to the Seleção where goals from his feet have been flowing in. In 2009, Fabiano extended his contract with Sevilla to 2011.

The story of Sevilla FC
Sevilla FC was established on 14 October 1905 by José Luis Gallegos. Gallegos had previously been a student in England, and in the very early years the team played almost exclusively against the crews of the English ships that were docked in Seville as, at that stage, there were no other clubs in the city.

Sevilla FC tasted their first success in 1935 when they won the Spanish Cup, a feat that they repeated in 1939. During the years after the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), Sevilla enjoyed a strong period and came agonisingly close to adding the league title in 1939/40. However, a draw in their last game meant that they could only finish second.

Won the Spanish league
After finishing both second and third during the years of Second World War, in 1945/46 Sevilla finally won the Spanish league for the first and so far only time. They followed up in 1948 by lifting the Spanish Cup once more, but that was the prelude to several decades of failure.

For the rest of the century the best they could manage was mid-table finishes and they also had to suffer relegation to the second division. The nadir came in 1999/2000 when Sevilla finished last in the Primera Division, but it also proved to be the turning point of the fortunes of the club.

Financial stability
Having built an exciting young team, Sevilla won the Second Division title in 2000/2001. The sale of one of their star performers, Jose Antonio Reyes to Arsenal brought much needed financial stability. In both 2003/04 and 2004/05 Sevilla FC finished 6th in the league, gaining a place in the UEFA Cup. And it was the 2005/06 UEFA Cup that put Sevilla FC firmly on the football map.

On the way to the final Sevilla beat, among others, French club Lille and Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04. And in the final they completely overwhelmed Middlesbrough in a 4-0 victory. They underlined their ascendancy with a 3-0 victory over Barcelona in an all-Spanish UEFA Super Cup.

Spanish Cup and Uefa Cup
The following season they became only the only second team in the history of the UEFA Cup to retain the trophy, defeating another Spanish rival, Espanyol, though this time they had to rely on a penalty shoot-out. On the road to the final they had seen off the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Shakhtar Donetsk and Osasuna. In the 2006/07 season Sevilla won their first domestic trophy for sixty years, winning their fourth Spanish Cup after beating Getafe 1-0 in the final.

In 2007/08 tragedy struck when one of their players Antonio Puerta died during a match against Getafe. Sevilla finished 5th in the Primera Division in 2007/08 and also reach the last 16 in the UEFA Champions League where they lost out to Turkish side Fenerbahce.

Sevilla’s main rivals are their neighbours Real Betis.

Among the great players who have worn the red and white shirt of Sevilla FC are Diego Maradona, Toni Polster, Javier Saviola, Bebeto, Daniel Alves, Ivan Zamorano, Robert Prosinecki, Davor Suker, Rinat Dasaev and Sergio Ramos.
